Reading Aloud:
The most effective way to build sight word knowledge is to read them in context. As often as you can, have your child read aloud to you books at his/her level. Help him/her find any sight words he/she is learning in the book.
Make the Words:
Have your child spell out his/her sight words with magnetic letters, alphabet cereal, clay, Scrabble letters, colorful yarn, or pipe cleaners.
Rainbow Words:
Have your child write some of the sight words in three or more colors. For example, he/she writes a word in red. Then, he/she takes a blue crayon and traces over the word in blue. The process is repeated with different colors.
Scrambled Words:
Have your child write a sight word and cut the letters apart. Mix up the letters and then have your child try to unscramble them to form the word again.
